Mourners honor Ind. soldier killed in Afghanistan
The Associated Press
LOWELL, Ind. &mdash A line of mourners passed by a row of American flags to attend the wake of a soldier who grew up in northwestern Indiana and was killed in Afghanistan.
The Times of Munster reports members of the Patriot Guard motorcycle group joined friends and relatives in paying respects to 22-year-old Spc. Augustus Vicari on Monday at a funeral home in Lowell. His funeral is set for Tuesday afternoon at Holy Name Catholic Church in nearby Cedar Lake.
Military officials said Vicari and another Oklahoma National Guard soldier were killed by a roadside bomb on July 29. His mother said Vicari had been in Afghanistan only three weeks.
Vicari graduated from Lowell High School. He and his wife had moved to Broken Arrow, Okla., to be closer to her father.
