Army 1st Lt. Christopher N. Rutherford died July 2 near Balad, Iraq, of wounds sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle.

I never got to meet you Chris but you were a very dear friend to a good friend of mine. He's told me so many good things about you. I know you made a huge impact on your hometown and it was visible the day of your funeral..to see all the people along the roadside holding flags in honor of you and what you had been thru. God Bless you buddy. I've gotten to know your little brother and i know that he and your family miss you so much.
