My deployment experience completely changed when I got back from mid tour leave and found out that SSG Bowen had fallen. To this day there has not been one day I don't think of him, as I wear a KIA bracelet in his memory, when I will never take off for as long as I live because whenever I question things, whenever I think I have it tough, his memory helps me put things in the right light and pull through. I wish I had been there with you, I wish you were here now.

Aw man, can't beleive it I just found out what happened from someone I talked to at Fort Jackson tht knows you too. She said she went to your funeral. It is a small, small Army. I found this when I did GooGle search. God I wish I had known so I could go to the funeral too. I'm so mad I didn't knkow. I can't beleive it man. I can't beleive I missed your funeral and didn't get to say peace to you but I REALLY can't beleive you are gone! Still having difficulty beleiving that you are really not here anymore. Keep expecting you to walk up behind me with a beer in your hand, asking me waht time we're leaving for the club.
I will NEVER forget how you always had my back no matter what! Truly one of the most UNSELFISH people I ever met and you taught me to always look on the positive side of things even when they look like they'll never get better.
Thank you for the memories Clay, thanks for being real, thanks for being the playa I always looked up to and wanted to be and also and know your sacrifice wasn't in vain! I hurt real bad right now but I know God had a reason to take you. Play on playa! HOOAH!

Clay,
There are so many things about you that people got to know and didn't get to know. You were the frist person that I met at Fort Bragg that not only loved Texas more than humanly possible, but that drove the longest POV on post. =) You and that caddy used to crack me up. But the most fun I had was watching you and jay play with those stinky his and his ferrets that you thought were the cutest things. I don't know who else would be as much as fun as you were in a Walmart at 3am looking for eggs to make back at the house. You had a quite, soulfulness to your voice that made me feel safe and no matter where you were in the world you knew just how to make distance disappear with the words you spoke. So maybe no more fun in Walmart for me and you in the future...and that long reunion we were waiting for will just have to wait a little longer. But I wanted to say what I didn't before and that is...that you made the biggest impact on me out of everyone I have met in my life. Your life and the way you lived it, is something that I hope many men keep working towards. I miss you more than ever and when I learn to accept the things I cannot change I will say my final goodbyes in San Antonio. Until then...know that I love you and I hope you and your father are standing next to each other with a smile on your face. That's what I want.
me again....Naomi

SSG Bowen, it was good meeting you at Bragg. You helped me a lot in preparing for my board. Thanks. I hope you have your pack of Newports for the journey home. My time in the 82d Chorus Operations office was never boring because of you. It is strange to see your number on my cell phone still after 4 years. Rest in Peace brother.

Clay,
I will always remember how you taught me to play Gin, and I'll also remember that when you got up to use the bathroom I looked at your cards to make sure I'd win. I never told you I did it, and you thought I just had "beginner's luck", lol. I will remember doing the shimmy dance with you to Mary J. Blige and you telling me the story of how you loved that song because it was the first tune you heard when you got out of training and back to civilization. I will remember talking to you on the phone for hours, how excited you were about the chocolate-covered strawberries I made, packing up 5 mountains of your stuff in duffel bags before you left for Alaska, and us arguing about how many octaves Freddie Mercury's voice was and who sang on "We Are The World", lol. I still can't believe you are gone...I have to remember that everything happens for a reason and is in God's infinite plan, but it still hurts.
I will remember you always. And I have to, because you're an unforgettable person. Some people come into our lives, for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. I thank God that He had a reason for you to be in my life for a season. Godspeed, Claybo. Godspeed.
To Your Family,
May God's grace keep you in your time of sorrow. Clay was a phenomenal person.
