Army Staff Sgt. Israel P. Nuanes died May 12, in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of injuries caused by an improvised explosive device. The order slated for Friday is in honor of Army Staff Sgt. Israel Nuanes. The Silver City-born Nuanes, who lived in Las Cruces, was killed in the Kandahar province of Afghanistan earlier this month by an enemy attack with an explosive device. He was assigned to the 741st Ordinance Company at Fort Bliss. He was the recipient of Bronze Star Medal. Nuanes is survived by his two children.
