Army Spc. James M. Finley died May 31 in Jalalabad City, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when his vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device. Also killed was Pvt. Andrew J. Shields.

I met James when he was a brand new PVT in Bamberg, Germany. He lived just a few doors down from me, and we became friends before I left there. We did not have contact after that. I will miss him very much. He was a good man and a good soldier. I feel privileged to have known him.

Mu husband and I are currently stationed in Bamberg, Germany - I graduated from Lebanon, Mo in 2000. We will be attending the memorial scheduled for James on Thursday, June 12th, 2008. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of this fallen hero.
