A LIFE REMEMBERED
Army Sgt. 1st Class Jeffrey D. Kettle died Aug. 12 in Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. Also killed were Staff Sgt. Jesse G. Clowers Jr. and Sgt. Charles B. Kitowski III.

I was on the plane to RDU yesterday with SFC Kettle's parents. The stewards paid honor to this fallen soldier and his parents, by recognizing their presence on the plane and requesting that they be allowed to exit the plane first upon landing. I turned to the lady next to me and said that I wish they had asked us to keep our seats. My faith in humanity (which was flagging after a long day of travel) was restored when upon landing, NO ONE MOVED. I was in tears when no one moved and allowed this grieving couple to leave to a round of applause. I was so proud to be an American. If Mr. and Mrs Kettle read this, please know I will think of you often.
