SGT Julie Hickey was a bright ray of hope to all the little girls and young women of Asadabad, Afghanistan. For a long time after she was medivaced, girls would come to our wire and say, "Jewl-lee" and call her name hoping she would come to see them. She nurtured the kids we came in contact with, even washing their filthy hair.
She was a tough but caring soldier and her family can be proud of the difference she made in the many young girls' lives she touched.
I think of her and the many suffering little kids in Kunar province almost daily. LTC W.
