Land, 24, of Wasco, Calif., died Oct. 30 in the Zhari district, Afghanistan, according to a news release from the Defense Department.Land was an infantryman assigned to Company C., 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division.He joined the Army in November 2008 and arrived at Fort Campbell in August 2009, according to a Fort Campbell news release.His awards and decorations include National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and Airborne Tab.Land is survived by his wife, Sarah E. Mejia, and daughter, Riley E. Land, of Hesperia, Calif. and his parents, Kenneth and Gretchen Land of Bakersfield, Calif.
