Emmons III, 22, of North Granby, Conn., was a signal support systems specialist with the 2nd Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division. Emmons joined the Army in September 2009. After training at Fort Jackson, S.C., and Fort Gordon, Ga., he arrived at Fort Polk in May 2010. He deployed with his unit in October 2010 to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Emmons is survived by his mother and stepfather.
