Army Sgt. Robert T. Ayres III died Sept. 29 in Baghdad of wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his unit using small-arms fire.

My Beloved,
My heart is with your heart as it has been for so long. I know that you no longer walk on this earthly plane, yet I can still feel you with me as I know I always will. I grieve for the loss of you, for dreams left unrealized, children of ours unborn, but I know that you feel no more pain, that your rewards have begun. My sorrow still knows no bounds, I would have taken that bullet for you if I were able. I know that the man you are would never let that happen, though. You died saving your men and that last selfless act exemplifies the life of service and love that you led. I will always be proud of you. I will always love you.
