Army Staff Sgt. Wentz Jerome Henry Shanaberger III was killed March 24 when he came under attack by individuals using small arms and an improvised explosive device as he was investigating a suspicious vehicle in Iraq.

SSG Shanaberger took me under his wing when I first got to Ft Polk, Even though I was in a different company. I know that the things he taught me have saved me on numerous occasions, and the whole time I was in I wanted to be like him and the other NCO's that I respected. Rest in Peace and I know you and I will meet again.
